Okay- you may think that I am totally cheap but I called the Pediatrician's office to see if I would have to pay another co-pay to take Rowan's staples out.. They said yes so I told them that I would be by to pick up the staple remover that I left there (that the ER gave me..). Of course they couldn't find it... and I know they thought I was crazy... but you have to know- I paid about $300 in copays in January and I'm looking at another $50 in well visit copays in February- so I am totally annoyed. And for all of you who didn't know, one of my physical therapy internships was in a burn unit and I did a lot of graft trimming which includes removing staples, so I know how to do it- with a staple remover.. SOO I will just tell you that a pair of wire cutters and my scapbooking pliers do almost as well. I put Rowan on my lap with a sucker and I don't think she even noticed I was doing minor surgery on her head with scrapbooking supplies. (I DID disinfect them ahead of time- before anyone calls CFS..)
Speaking of the burn unit, my sweet nephew Cooper got his foot caught in the spokes of a bike and has to get his ankle skin-grafted next week- this week they covered it with cadaver skin, but next week they will harvest a graft from his scalp to cover what is considered a third degree friction burn on his ankle.. He is being a trooper though and is stoked that he gets to miss so much school. Erin, my sister is NOT such a fan of the burn unit.. the treatment is amazing - but the IDEA of it all does not suit her, and I can guarantee that she will NOT be taking out his staples...

yet another reason why you are a better mom than me! i would have done the same thing but who knows if i would have take the time to disinfect. lol. glad you are so handy though. how did he get his foot caught in the tire spokes?
Wow reading about the burn unit brought back memories.I admire all of the hard work you did and look it paid off. My dad took out paul's staples with wire cutters which i'm sure were not disinfected.
Oh poor guy. My sister got her fingers cut off in an exercise bike, scary. What an ordeal. Hope that goes well.
hey, thanks for the comment. I debated stopping by, I really did, because I was sure you were close, but I woke up late.. pretty much within 1/2 hour of having to leave, and then when it was time to part, I really just wanted to get home. Email me your number though because we might come to Vegas for a bit over the president's weekend. I don't know for sure, but if we do, I'd love to stop by.
I hear you! Medical bills and insurance are awful! They will basically charge you a copay for a phone call. That is so funny-I don't think I would ever be brave enough to do something like that on my own! I still have my staple remover from my C-section somewhere. I am not sure why the nurse gave them to me-like I would actually ever use them. Sorry to hear about your nephew. That sucks-tell Erin I feel for her. Thanks for the cute baby announcement! Your kids are all so beautiful!
